ROAST AGAIN!

In a first of its kind comedy show in India, All India Bakchod released the AIB Roast; starring Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh on YouTube on January 28, 2015. Karan Johar, who was the Roast Master, began the show by saying, "Let the filth begin." At the roast, few AIB comedians made fun of top Bollywood actors Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. The humor was explicit ranging from the stars' sex lives to loo humor to digs at the not-so-good moments from their careers. No one was spared, be it Roast Master Karan Johar, the stars in the audience (including Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt), or even the comedians themselves! Everyone became a target on the show. The AIB Knockout was a one night event set aside where Bollywood stars Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor got taken down a notch by All India Bakchod and some special guests live on stage. AIB threw the funniest, nastiest and most politically incorrect insults at Ranveer and Arjun, and all they could do was just grin and bear it. While it was great to watch these stars take everything in with a smile on their faces, Karan Johar played a perfect Roast Master. What followed was an entertaining exchange between the stars.

After much debate and critical reviews on the AIB Knockout roast of Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor, the three part video has been finally removed from the YouTube. The viral video group received a lot of criticism for using foul language in the roast. The video divided Twitter into two groups with #AIBNationalShame and #WeStandByAIBKnockout.

While many argue that the roast was a cheap take at humor and offended many, one has to take into account the fact that those who were being offended, had signed up for it, no pressure. We talk about a country with freedom of speech and expression, and YouTube is a social media where one is permitted to express themselves. Why then should we make such a hoo-ha about the AIB Roast?

The show hosts have given a clear disclaimer about the kind of humor used in the show, so if one is sensitive to such humor, one should avoid watching it at all. It is just like porn. Porn is something that most people including me find offensive and cheap. Which is why I avoid watching it. But at the same time I respect someone else’s right to watch it for whatever purpose it may be. And I wouldn’t say that it should be banned.

My simple argument here is that if I don’t like something, or find it offensive to my values and sentiments, I will stay away from it, which is what everyone who found the roast offensive should have done. Besides, these comedians are known for cooking up this kind of filthy humor. And while I agree that they did pass derogatory remarks towards people and society, I believe so do many other mediums. Many a TV show pokes fun at communities. Take for example the show ‘The Big Bang Theory’ which stars an Indian Rajesh Koothrapalli as one of the leads. Many jokes are constantly made about him being brown and coming from India. On more than one occasion in the show, he is referred to as ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. Does that mean the show is offensive? I think not. I believe that people should keep an open mind towards issues such as these. We live in a country of many castes and cultures and everything that someone says is bound to hurt some community or the other. We shouldn’t wear the hat, just because it fits us. As a developing country, we must learn to be open-minded and deal with such issues without creating such an upheaval that sheds bad light on India as an intolerant and backward country.

Although a note to the AIB fellas can be found in  " Sensitivity and sensibility in satire ". And to all the other, well its easy to get offended with certain comments but it takes courage and skill to write and make an aundience laugh. Also one must remember that we stay in India, a country so diverse that nobody can please everybody. So how about each Indian taking a pledge to understand where the other is coming from and then judge them according to each's prejudices

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?

Shayak Roy

Pune : Imagine an Indian posh school somewhere in the heart of Delhi, which suddenly decides to have a focused curriculum on American accent development. Co-incidentally, the school also flaunts a number of wealthy Jats and an amalgamation of wealthier Bihari’s who’s accents are thicker than the Pillars on Victoria Memorial. Such was the situation of the OML sponsored AIB which worked around translations of Western roasts only in their thick accents.
With more than a dozen full of punishable offences put on them, confusion is what everyone resorts to within and outside the core AIB. However, the real joke was when people were less concerned about how AIB was questioned by Aamir Khan and not by Baba Ramdev considering the political repercussions the later would have over the esteemed actors so called hypocrisy.
The social media went bizarre as everyone posted support comments for the comedy group which only grounded its act on plagiarism and how. I guess this is the advantage of being in India, popularity on the basis of discussion is way beyond reality and how things are made more important.

The concept Roast, also coined as insult comedy in a survey by scoopwoop was determined as almost unknown by the so called educated and upper middle class population which actually watched, re watched, re, re-watched and then discussed the topic as it was the national issue of the country then.
Hence, the real concern here is, what is it that is questionable? The plagiarized act? The show in general or the concept that Indians are yet to comprehend with an open mind.

AAP for the aam people of Delhi

AAP for the aam people of Delhi

The massive victory for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi does not merely indicate very strong electoral support for the AAP; it indicates the huge faith the people of Delhi have reposed in this new party and its relatively new leader, Arvind Kejriwal. The man who was labelled as a bhagoda, the man who was blamed for running away without delivering what he had promised to the people, has led the party not just to victory but to a stunning victory in Delhi. Hardly has there been an occasion in Indian politics when a party has registered such a massive victory.

In such a victory, one would thought that every section of voters would have voted for the winning party, but still the AAP was far more popular among the poor and the lower class voters when compared to the middle or upper class voters. Even during the past Assembly election, voters have remained sharply divided about their preferences on class lines in Delhi, but this election seems to have witnessed the sharpest class divide among Delhi’s voters. The Congress, which used to enjoy large support among Delhi’s poor, has surrendered its entire support base to the AAP.

AIB controversy

The heavily-panned AIB roast garnered more hate than praise and it was interesting to see that celebrities in the film fraternity had opposing views on the celebrity roast show featuring Karan Johar, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor. While the All India Bakchod boys took the roast video of AIB Knockout off YouTube, the controversy surrounding it didn’t die down.
What I don't understand is can't we take anything with a pinch of salt? Almost all the celebrities who were being mocked had given their consent and our democracy says thats we have the freedom of speech as long as we don't hurt anyone. The AIB group, in their previous videos had also mentioned that they are a bunch who just like making jokes. When did the concept of taking wags seriously even come in?

Like filmmaker Mr. Balakrishnan called it the "simple" concept, wherein he explains why we need not make such a huge fuss about the roast. Similarly, actor Divyendu said it is all about the "generation gap" , soon Anushka Sharma spoke about how it was a fun show followed by AIB themselves tried to explain AIB point. With all the explaining, the sensor board should understand as well as all the people who found it offensive that it was just an experiment and in all of it should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Why follow the London Fashion Week 2015 or any at all?

Why follow the London Fashion Week 2015 or any at all?

There are a number of people out there who wonder what is all the hype about fashion. I know a number of people who often say "I don't understand fashion"or "trends come and go and then they repeat, so what is the whole point about it?" . There is, obviously, no "point" in keeping up with fashion any more than there is in charting the progress of one's football team through the different leagues.  I mean, what's the point in watching every football match when you can just catch up at the end of the season and see where your team is, right? Or even, why bother with that seeing as they'll only be in a different position next year, right?

Wrong, obviously. People follow sports teams for the same reason they follow soap operas for the same reason they follow fashion: because it's fun. It's enjoyable to talk about the progression of Arsenal/EastEnders/hemlines with fellow devotees because it's fun to feel part of a club and to talk in shared codes with other club members and, for heaven's sake, it's just nice to take a break from bills and bus queues and the general tedium of real life. The changeability is part of the thrill.

So this year at London Fashion Week just get into the thrill of seeing something new. It's all about new ideas, new ways of wearing the same thing, influencing the market with creativity and seeing how people play with colours combinations.

If you are convinced that there is no harm in understanding the fashion and want to even try the new styles there here is the full schedule.

The way swine flu affects

The way swine flu affects

Technically, the term "swine flu" refers to influenza in pigs. Occasionally, pigs transmit influenza viruses to people, mainly to hog farmers and veterinarians. Less often, someone infected passes the infection to others.
It is relatively a new virus and hence we need to understand how it works. The virus kills one cell after the other in the body but the main question is if the human immune system can fight it in time.

The human respiratory infection caused by a particular influenza virus H1N1 strain — popularly known as swine flu — was first recognized in spring 2009. A few months after the first swine flu cases were reported, rates of confirmed H1N1-related illness were increasing in much of the world. As a result, the World Health Organization declared the infection a global pandemic.
